Good morning from the great up north! I’ve been at our humble lakeside abode since last Thursday night as I am traveling for work this week. I’m so thankful to have a place to land close to the offices in the northern region so I don’t have to drive all the way back home after going as far up as the Upper Peninsula. (If you haven’t traveled it, believe me – from the Capital City, that drive is a HAUL – and going round-trip makes for a LONG day.) Fortunately for me, this time of year I can stay at our place in Ludington which cuts at least an hour off of my drive in both directions and allows me a change in scenery and a different routine for the week, which is something I need to keep my perspective fresh and my spirits lifted!
Being up here at the lake is so refreshing. The sight and sound of water everyday, alone, is a glorious thing; factor in the fresh air, sunshine, blue sky, birds chirping, and you’ve got paradise! I sleep so deep and sound up here. And nothing beats waking up every day to drink my coffee and spend time with God on the deck overlooking the lake, and getting my runs in down the pier and along the shore. Despite having the daily demands and routine of work, it’s like being on vacation. And honestly, I focus better and my productivity is increased when I have more room for my soul to breathe. It’s a welcome change of pace and I’m so grateful for it!
It’s so nice to have this little slice of time away to “just be” before the busy end to June, with our best friends’ wedding, and the busy start to July, with the Independence Day holiday. Back-to-back weekends of celebration, fun, and memory-making, which the hubby and I are super stoked for, but which also makes this little bit of time away to enjoy our place alone, together, in the peace and quiet, so special. I find as I’m getting older that I’m way more of an introvert than I ever thought I was. It’s true that I am a very outgoing and social person, but I really crave and thrive on time to myself in order to be refueled and rejuvenated for the busier times when I need to be on my game and am surrounded by others. I’m a more enjoyable and rested Hannah when I have the time to be alone and process and step away from all the people and things clamoring for my attention. So this week away came at the perfect time and I know is firing me up for all the activities over the next two weeks!
For the rest of this week, I’ll be traveling to some of my longer distance offices and then enjoying the weekend back at our place with my man. I’m looking forward to taking in the Pure Michigan sights and soaking in every minute of my time up here before I head home. Hope you’re all having a great week and have the chance to get away this summer and have your own change of scenery. It’s worth it!
