Back at the homestead after spending yet another lovely weekend at our favorite home-away-from-home. I love that the hubby and I have a place to go during the summer season that allows us to take a break from the routine of work and home, and get away and be free. We so enjoy spending time outside by the water, with each other, and with our family and friends. It’s all about relaxing, letting go, laughing, and giving ourselves permission to just “be.” Who doesn’t need that every now and then?
Nothing in this world is perfect, but this weekend to me, was just that. Here’s what made it so…
*The fresh cool air in the morning and evening; warm temperatures during the day without the humidity.
*My training run on Saturday felt so good, I went one more mile than I needed to. My pace was steady, my movement fluid, and I had no discomfort or annoyances along the way.
*A delicious post-run treat consisting of a skinny sugar free vanilla latte and a cherry turnover from my favorite cafe/bakery.
*Watching my husband, father, and grandfather come back to the marina with eight fresh caught salmon.
*Spending the afternoon at the beach with nothing but the sound of the water and a good book to pass the time.
*Going out on the town to our favorite little hole in the wall bar for dinner and then having dessert at the notorious House of Flavors with the family.
*Coming home from the lake to a fresh, clean house and two very happy kitties.
*Enjoying my kitchen by making whole wheat banana peach muffins that now have my house smelling like a bakery.
*Curling up in my big chair, windows open, the sound of crickets and birds in the air, and blogging.
This weekend had all the right elements for me. Time alone, time with family. Great weather, good for the soul recreation, and delicious food. Now that it’s about over, a calming tired has settled on me for the night and I know I will sleep peaceful and sound after this wonderful two day break. I will begin anew tomorrow with sweet memories of a weekend well spent. Perfect.
