The beginning of a new journey is always exciting to me. I love fresh starts, new days, and all the endless opportunities that exist as the beginning of something wonderful unfolds. This marks one of those times.
I have a passion for writing and sharing stories. I’ve always had a journal, I post a Facebook status most days, and I’m the queen of note taking, whether it’s been in school, at home, or at work. You can bet I have an endless supply of sticky-notes, legal pads, notepads, and word documents…not to mention every type of pen imaginable! I enjoy putting my thoughts, important lessons, to do’s, and other valuable information into a typed or written format. In essence, writing makes me happy. It’s one of many outlets I use to get through this thing called life.
Speaking of “life,” that’s what this whole blog is about…Living the Good Life. I’m very excited to begin this blog and share collections of insights, thoughts, and pictures on all those things that have made my personal life so very sweet. I’m one person out of billions in this big, huge world and this planet offers so much for us to ponder. I enter this arena in simplicity. I simply hope to be authentic, genuine, transparent, and in doing so, add some much needed positivity and fresh air to the hearts of those who come across this page.
I tend to be a creature of habit and routine; I’m usually not one for taking big risks or going outside of my comfort zone. But one thing I’ve very much been learning the last few years is that when we take some time to step outside of ourselves and dare to dream in faith, amazing things begin to happen and lives can be changed for the good, for the “better than ever imagined.” So, I begin this journey – putting myself and my words out there – and pray it will be an amazing adventure for us all!
To close this first post, I recently came across this poem and felt it so appropriate being the summer season and that it speaks of life. The last two lines are especially unforgettable. Enjoy!
The Summer Day
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
