I have so come to appreciate the women in my life. Whether family member, friend, co-worker, or neighbor – there is a special connection and bond that exists among women. Even though our individual lives may look very different, there’s a shared understanding between us. We just ‘get’ each other, in a way women and men do not. And something I’ve been realizing more and more is that the more crazy busy life gets for me, the more I need the women in my life. The beauty, honesty, humor, strength, vulnerability, and wisdom they offer are what encourage and inspire me to be the best woman I can be and keep me moving forward in the direction my life is called to go.
I’ve been making it a priority to get together on a regular basis with more of the women in my life. This year especially, in the wake of all the difficulty I experienced in 2013, I strongly felt at the turn of the new year that I needed to be intentional in facilitating relationships, friendships, and community.
So to live out this commitment, my girlfriend, Emily, and I hosted a little gathering at the ranch this weekend – our 2nd Annual “My Favorite Things / Girl’s Day Out” party – and it was FABULOUS! After doing this last year and having so much fun, we knew we had to do it again and make it a regular thing. So, about a month ago we sent out the invites and a small group of us came together yesterday for an afternoon of homemade goodies, the finest of wine, and all of our very ‘favorite things’ to share with everyone. (If you’re curious what a “My Favorite Things” party is, check out the idea here. Pinterest also provides some other great ways to host one of these too!)
Here’s how the day looked …
Gotta love these new Dixie paper plates and bowls! So glad they finally make something that matches my kitchen to a T!
Had to get these sparkly bright purple flowers to add a pop of spring to the day! Fresh flowers make everything better!
All of our “favorite things” lined up to give away! We had everything from kitchen-ware, bath and body items, to food and drink!
My scores for the day! New favorites to enjoy in the new season!
My dear friend and co-host, Emily, and I celebrating another successful Girl’s Day Out! Already looking forward to next year’s event!
I am so grateful for these women who took time out of their busy lives to drive all the way out to the country, fellowship, and live it up on a sunny Saturday afternoon. This is what Living the Good Life is all about – making room and time for the people who matter most, and focusing on the good and wonderful things in life! I, for one, will definitely be doing more of this in the future!

Our friendships flow in the deep waters of the heart where God dwells and transformation takes place. It is here, in this holy place, that a woman can partner with God in impacting another and be impacted by another for lasting good. It is here that she can mother, nurture, encourage and call forth Life.
We are not made to live our lives alone. We are designed to live in relationship and share in the lives of other women. We need each other. God knows that. He will help us.
