Last week I posted some snapshots from the full moments that comprised April. With May now here, I thought I would start this month by sharing those things that are inspiring me in the thick of it …
Adventure
Between beginning our season up north two weeks ago and preparing for my upcoming trip to Colorado over Memorial Day weekend, I am so looking forward to the opportunities to get away and enjoy some new experiences. As I’ve said before, travel is like oxygen to me. I am a person who thrives on having things to look forward to and with all that’s been going on, I am ready to get away and have some breaks with family and friends, soaking in the good things of life. The hubby and I are also starting to plan our 7 year anniversary trip and I’m super excited to think about the fun we’ll have together, exploring new sights and just being with one another, not tied to our daily demands and routines. It’s going to be a great spring and summer season!
Bible Study
After Easter, it seemed like a perfect time to delve into a new study of God’s Word. I’ve had Beth Moore’s Living Beyond Yourself sitting on my bookshelf for a while and upon taking it down and looking through it, I felt compelled to begin this in-depth study on ‘The Fruit of the Spirit.’ As with every Beth Moore study I’ve done, I’m captivated by the things I’m learning through this, and I’m only two weeks in. I love the introduction where Beth says, “Through the infiltrating power of the Holy Spirit, I can Do things I couldn’t, Feel things I didn’t, and Know things I wouldn’t.” Powerful stuff!
Blogs
Lara Casey has declared May as the new January and I couldn’t agree more! She writes these encouraging words: “Whatever that thing is that is calling your heart to start new, take the leap. Whether it’s a relationship that needs your all or a creative pursuit or loving someone well or writing your soul or gutting your closet or planting your garden — do it. Dig deep into fresh soil with me, friend.”
This new month is the perfect time for a fresh start; a time to get refocused, re-energized, and re-charged for the bright, sunny days ahead. Here’s to #StartFreshMay and the endless possibilities that exist within the months to come!
Books
I haven’t had much time to read lately, but as the opportunity has presented itself, I’ve been making my way through this piece of historical fiction. The Forgotten Garden flips between the present, the 70’s, and the early 1900s, telling the story of a woman who comes to learn about the past of her grandmother who raised her and has recently passed away. I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because it reminds me of my own grandmother who passed away in January. Something about it makes me feel closer to her, and more at peace. This is one of those books that, despite being fictional, speaks right to the heart and soul. I’m enjoying curling it up with it at night, and getting lost in its pages to wind down my busy days.
Movies
Heaven is For Real. I read the book a little over a year ago and loved it, so of course, I had to see the film, and it too was wonderful. This is a great TRUE story full of hope and promise for those of us who have ever wondered what it’s like in Heaven. Whether you’re a believer or not, I definitely think it’s worth seeing as it lends itself to discussion over what really is next for us after our time here is over. If you’re looking to see a movie at the theater anytime soon, I definitely recommend this one!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. This movie spoke so much to my heart, as a girl who does a lot of dreaming. The point: “Stop Dreaming. Start Living.” While it’s great to dream, it’s also important to take action and live our lives RIGHT NOW. The adventure Walter Mitty finds himself on as he steps out of his comfort zone and takes risks to find what he’s after leads him to places beyond what he ever thought possible. And that adventure piece is what I loved about this film, because I have found this to be true in my own life. This movie had it all – great story, great cinematography, great message. Prepare to be inspired!
Music
Francesca Battistelli, If We’re Honest
Kari Jobe, Majestic
NEEDTOBREATHE, Rivers in the Wasteland
I have been playing these three albums NON-STOP on Spotify since they released. They serve as my background music while I’m at work and while I’m writing and working on other creative endeavors. I definitely plan to add them to my iPod soon so I can enjoy them beyond my computer. If you’re looking for some new music and haven’t checked these out yet, do so today! You’re in for a real treat!
Podcasts
I’m very much a student when it comes to the things of God. If you’ve followed me on here for any length of time, you know I LOVE God’s Word, books centered on faith, and bible study. Something else I’ve also come to appreciate in the last couple of years are podcasts – sermons, interviews, talks on various topics, etc. – downloaded and listened to as I drive or find myself in the mood to hear something enriching and inspiring. And I’m pretty sure I hit the jackpot with this one! The download bundle from this year’s If:Gathering event is probably the best $25 I’ve ever spent, encompassing messages from some of my favorite authors and speakers, such as Jennie Allen, Christine Caine, Rebekah Lyons, Ann Voskamp, Sarah Bessey, Jen Hatmaker, and Shelley Giglio centered on the question: “If God is real, then what?” Every item I’ve listened to has totally resonated with me and where I’m at right now in my faith walk, being a girl who wants all of what God has in mind for my purpose and calling here on Earth. If you’re looking for your mind to be blown with the goodness and thrilling nature of God, and to be empowered to live out the adventure God has for you life, then I highly suggest this incredible package!
What things are inspiring you in this current season? What things keep you going in the hustle and bustle of life?
Wishing you a lovely Sunday, friends!
