Good morning, friends! Today I thought I’d share a little about my new favorite Sunday worship routine – ART JOURNALING! This has been a wonderful way for me to commune with God in His Word and apply the lessons I’m learning in my daily devotionals to my heart, mind, spirit, and soul each week, letting God’s truth soak in to my deepest places.
The great thing about this is that you don’t have to be a creative genius to do it; I just put on some worship music, get out all of my Illustrated Faith supplies, open up my bible and journal, and let inspiration come with colors and stickers and die-cuts and washi tape, lots of washi tape! It’s messy and fun and very freeing! I could do it for hours (oh wait, I already do)!
Here’s a look into some of the things I’ve recently done as I’ve worked my way through the three-week Be Still and Know study by Rebekah Lyons.
Week 1: Be
Week 2: Still
Week 3: Know
The things I’ve done thus far are pretty basic, in comparison to some of the things you’ll see out there on YouTube and Pinterest, but you know what? I’m happy with them and that’s all that matters! Again, you don’t have to be a creative genius and perfection is not the goal. The goal is to show up with an open heart and hands ready to worship God through art and creativity. And in doing so, He changes and transforms our hearts, minds, and lives for our good and His glory.
If you’re interested in learning more about this, check out Illustrated Faith on Instagram and Pinterest. There’s also a group on Facebook called Journaling Bible Community where folks share posts of what they’re creating. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube as well. But, friends, don’t let any of this scare you. Be brave and give it a shot! The more you do it, the more comfortable you’ll get and I promise, you WILL have fun with it!
Happy creating, friends!
