Well here we are – enjoying the last hoorah of the season – Labor Day weekend! Following this, the final weeks of summer will have children returning to school, colors shifting from green to gold, and the air moving from stagnant and humid to breezy and cool.
The changing of seasons is one of my absolute favorite things about living in Michigan and life in general. Come this time of year, I’m ready for change. A new season means new goals, new projects, and new adventures – things to look forward to, hope for, and live out to the fullest! I adore fall and am really looking forward to what it will bring this year. But more on this later. For now, I’m reveling in this time to soak up the last days of summer.
Here are some things I’m LOVING this Labor Day weekend…
** Up North: Long, slow days at the marina with family and friends. Enjoying the sunrise over Pere Marquette Lake and the sunset over Lake Michigan. Watching the first college football games of the season with our fellow campers. Drinking coffee on the deck. Reading on the beach. Sleeping peacefully to the sound of crickets and the feel of cool air through the window.
** Books: Visited my favorite used bookstore and stocked up on a bunch of good reads for the coming season. Currently reading the bestseller “Drowning Ruth” by Christina Schwarz, a real page-turner of a novel, perfect for the beach and curling up with in bed.
** Podcasts: Recently learned of The Village Church in Texas and have been tuning into their new sermon series, “Recovering Redemption.” It’s an awesome message getting back to the basics of the good news of the gospel. Highly recommend!
** Scripture: Been meditating on Ezekiel 36:26: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” The promise of a new heart and a new spirit for the coming season? Yes, please!
** Colors: Pink and Orange. A surprisingly refreshing combination with a touch of summer and a hint of fall. Add a little sparkle to this palette and you make it even better!
** Food: U-pick blueberries and peaches. Farm-fresh sweet corn and tomatoes. The taste of harvest-time. Yum!
** Brew: Pumpkin Spice Latte in the morning. Sam Adams Octoberfest in the evening. Simply bliss!
What things are you loving and enjoying and soaking in this weekend? I hope these days are treating you fabulously! Happy Labor Day Weekend!
