I love Sunday mornings. The peace and quiet, the stillness and solitude of both the indoors and outdoors…it’s refreshing, relaxing, and rejuvenating. I am perfectly comfortable in my pajamas, with a hot cup of coffee and my laptop. This is my time to wander and to dabble in whatever suits my fancy. My heart is full after a lovely day with two dear friends and my soul at rest after a sound night’s sleep. Simply stated, I am content.
Sundays are always a day of rest for me. I give myself a break physically, while spending more focused time on my spiritual health which boosts my emotional and psychological well-being as I prepare for the coming week. I reflect on and receive from God the inspiration and life that only He can give. The goal come Monday morning is to be purged of any negative, and to begin anew in the positive.
I picked up a new non-fiction selection while perusing the bookstore on Friday evening, and within two pages of starting the book found food for my soul. Since reading the following passage, I’ve thought about it several times over this weekend…
To be named by God – and to live that way – is to abide in a constant state of redemption and surrender. It is a place of knowing who you are in Christ and knowing that your true identity is found in him. It is a place of recognizing that other people’s opinions and attitudes toward you no long dictate your worth. It is a place where religion and rules fade away and your connection with your Creator becomes all the more central. And it is a place where your every word, every thought, every action is preceded by a clear move of the Lord. Being named by God is finding yourself by losing yourself – redemption and surrender.
– Kasey Van Norman, Named by God
This is what I want for this Sunday and all days. Allowing God to name me, surrendering my heart, soul, mind, and strength, in addition to committing my way to Him…this is how I experience the abundant life and keep moving forward in the path of joy. Today, this blessed Sunday, I am reminded that God is great and the life He gives is so good!
