One year ago (from tomorrow) I made my official grand entrance into the blogging world! Time flies when we’re having fun!
As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, writing is a huge passion of mine – I routinely journal, write out cards and letters, create articles for work, make lists, take notes, etc. But those things are private, or between me and others I know personally, or written without my name and face attached to it. It’s safe and easy.
But prior to beginning this blogging adventure, I felt God calling me to put myself out there with regard to my writing and photography. At first I resisted – thinking, “What on earth could I possibly have to offer? What will people think? What if I’m not any good at this?” But despite my stubborn insecurity, I continued to have the promptings and felt they could no longer be ignored; so on July 1st, I published my first post and “Living the Good Life” was born!
Some posts have received ‘likes’ and feedback and others have not. Some posts have been very personal while others have been more “just for the fun of it.” I link my posts to my Facebook page, and I have no idea if any of my “friends” read them or even what they think about them, unless they specifically comment on the link. But that’s okay, because none of this was and never has been the point.
After a year of doing this on a fairly regular basis, I feel the purpose has been to grow and nurture and further develop this skill of putting words together to convey thoughts, feelings, stories, and truths that I’ve been learning in my own life, as well as capturing images that inspire, refresh, and show the beauty of the world around us – the good things we may otherwise miss in our crazy busy days if not for being intentional in looking for these gifts – and sharing those with you.
This has been about being open to possibilities, allowing myself to be vulnerable with people I may or may not know, and taking the risk to dream, encourage others, and be a light for even just one person who needs to know that they’re not alone in wanting more and better for themselves, their loved ones, their community, and the world altogether.
I’m an ordinary person – a twenty-something woman who lives in the country with her husband and two cats; a social worker by trade and follower of Christ who loves her family and friends, her mitten-shaped state, and enjoys various hobbies. But this past year, in the midst of my ordinary life, I’ve had the honor of experiencing some extraordinary things, both big and small, and sharing those with all of you has been a tremendous blessing. The things I’ve learned through this process and the ways it has challenged me to be a better person has been nothing short of amazing, even when it’s been hard. This is really what “Living the Good Life” is all about – being authentic, genuine, and true to yourself, and not letting fear, doubt, shame, or pain stop you from being everything you were meant to be. It’s about living and loving your story out loud – remembering through it all that “life is good!”
If this is your first time here, I welcome you. If you’ve been reading for a while, I thank you.
Cheers to one year!
