The past couple months have made for a great opportunity to hibernate next to the fire and soak in some good reads. Books are one of my most favorite things in the world, and I have been happily working through a list of “must reads” since the turn of the new year. Getting lost in these has been a great way to wind down the long, cold days and chill out on Sunday afternoons.
Below are a few I’ve particularly enjoyed so far …
Non-Fiction:
Mended by Angie Smith. This book is a series of small essays / devotions focused on the various concepts of faith in everyday life. It’s a quick read that packs a lot of punch and will leave you feeling encouraged, inspired, and refreshed. I have just recently become familiar with Angie as an author, and reading her books make you feel like you’re catching up with a good friend over tea as she writes with warmth, honesty, and humor.
“The Lord has told you where to go, and its time to walk. Eyes straight ahead, tangled in the spectacular love of a Savior who wants nothing less for you than the summit.”
Restless by Jennie Allen. One word: LOVE! This book spoke deeply to my heart on so many levels because it’s totally in line with where I’m at in my life right now: further discovering my passions, dreaming big with God, and going after those things He’s put in my heart to do. The book isn’t just a book, it’s an invitation to dive in and really reflect on the various threads (experiences, people, places, gifts, etc.) that God is weaving into the story He’s writing for our lives. I so recommend this book if you’re ready to take the leap and go after what you were put here to do. You will not be disappointed.
“God could untangle your soul, your story, you gifts, your people, your place, and your passions, and begin to weave it into purposes that you haven’t been brave enough to imagine.”
Other non-fiction selections I’ve read:
Fiction:
Morning Glory by Sarah Jio. A great combination of history, mystery, and romance. Sarah Jio has become one of my favorite authors since I discovered her books last year. I love how her books flip between the present and the past and bring two character’s stories together into one. If you want a book that has a little bit of it all, this is the one to read!
The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. Historical. Haunting. Beautiful. Probably one of the best books I’ve ever read. I could not put it down, and the story sticks with you long after you finish it. It’s hard to believe this was the author’s first novel. I definitely look forward to what she’ll write next. If you read one book this year, let this be IT!
